Walmart Every Child Has A Chance

Walmart donates $25,000 to CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties Every Child has a chance Program

Walmart is committed to making a positive impact in the communities it serves, through grants and volunteer efforts. CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties was one of the grateful recipients of the Walmart State Giving Program for its Every Child has a Chance program. CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties serves abused and neglected children in Liberty and Chambers Counties by providing community volunteers to speak up in the courts for these vulnerable children and youth. We recruit, train, and support volunteer Advocates, equipping them to advocate for the underserved foster child. Our volunteer Advocates serve as fact finders for the court by researching the circumstances of each court appointed case. They speak for the child in the courtroom, representing the child’s best interest, and facilitate and monitor the case to ensure that the child’s well-being is addressed in a timely fashion. CASA Advocates provide insight and an objective perspective not bound by the restrictions or red-tape that govern a CPS caseworker or attorney, and develop a one-on-one, ongoing relationship with the child. Each volunteer Advocate undergoes screening and 30 hours of intensive training prior to being sworn in as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in court, and participates in 12 hours of continuing education every year. Each Advocate is supported by a staff Advocate Coordinator who guides, advises and supports them while they serve as the eyes and ears of the judge. This well trained, child focused, determined volunteer becomes “the Chance for the Child”. CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties is extremely grateful for the support of Walmart to make a difference in the lives of children in foster care.

The Walmart Foundation’s $25,000 donation to CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties is part of Walmart’s State Giving Program; they provide grants to 501C organizations in each state across the nation. In Fiscal Year 2016, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation donated more than $1.4 billion in cash and in kind. Associates also contributed more than 1.25 million hours of their time outside of work to volunteer causes.
