2018 CASA SUPERHERO RUN
Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Mont Belvieu City Park
Registration and Pick-Up is from 6:00-7:00 am
Dear Community SUPERHERO,
Child abuse and neglect is an ongoing epidemic. It has a lasting negative impact on the quality of life for its victims, on the families involved, and of course, our greater society.
According to statistics released by the Texas Department of Health & Human Services, in 2017:
- A Texas child died from abuse or neglect about every two days
- About every 8 minutes of everyday, a Texas child endured a new episode of confirmed abuse or neglect
- More than half of abused and neglected children in our state were under the age of 5
While those are heartbreaking numbers for all of us who consider the well-being of innocent children to be our highest priority, we are convinced based on so very many success stories that we can make a difference for even the most traumatized.
Court-Appointed Special Advocates help break the cycle of abuse and neglect by speaking up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the foster care system, and pursuing the best possible options for a child’s day-to-day care and upbringing.
In 2017, 115 volunteer Advocates invested themselves in seeing to the greatest possible well-being for 324 abused and neglected children in Chambers and Liberty Counties.
By sponsoring the CASA SuperHero Fun Run, YOU are helping change children’s lives. YOU are helping CASA Advocates find relatives for children who thought they were alone. YOU are helping to keep brothers and sisters together as often as possible. YOU are helping toddlers find someone they can safely and lovingly consider to be a mommy and/or daddy to them. YOU are playing a part in giving kids in our own community a chance to really live life in the formative years of their lives, setting them on a trajectory toward something more positive than it otherwise would be.
Since CASA of Liberty/Chambers Counties gained the capability to take on 100% of CPS cases a few years ago, local support to recruit, train and support one individual volunteer Advocate’s work in caring for the well-being of a neglected or abused child in our area has required an average of $3,972 in funding. Because any given Advocate is likely to accept assignments for 1-2 cases per year and each case averages 1-2 children, your sponsorship of $1,000 generally translates into making a difference for at least 1 (1 case involving 1 child) and as many as 4 (2 cases involving 2 children) children’s lives.
There are promotional benefits for you and your business as well. Thank you in advance for your generosity and for your participation in making like better for children in our county.
